Our point about egkrateia IS that this idea from the Apostle Paul should be seen in relation to self-control and we should try to understood that this control IS of the Soul over the carnal self. In this we should see the idea of the man in the world being free from his carnal instincts and here we should try to understand that this IS NOT ONLY the base instincts of men; this freedom IS also from the deeper ideas of “the works of the flesh” as well. This word represents the deeper reality of the full ideas of ALL aspects of “the fruit of the Spirit” and here we should understand that as Paul anchors his list with this last word, so the idea of egkrateia should be seen as the Truth of one’s measure of accomplishment.

When we consider that ALL of the aspects of “the fruit of the Spirit” must per force work together, we can then understand that here, as in most ALL spiritual endeavor, to have one part IS to have ALL parts. By example we should see that to be a True disciple of the Lord IS the same as to have His Presence, to be a part of His Kingdom and that this IS the True reality of being “born again“. ALL of these ideas ARE a the result, the reward and the grace if you will, that comes to a man by proportionate measure to that by which he keeps His words. This IS of course the deeper reality of His words saying “take heed what ye hear: with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you: and unto you that hear shall more be given” (Mark 4:24). In this we should relate hearing to perceiving and to that KNOWING which IS faith and see that this idea of measure for measure IS True for most ALL ways that this idea IS referenced by the gospel writers including the Apostle Luke’s version that says: “Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. Again, while doctrines see the carnal ideas rendered from the Greek words, they miss the entire point of Paul’s words that show us the separation, the dichotomy, between the carnal and the spiritual; they DO NOT see the Truth that it IS the expression of the “the fruit of the Spirit” through keeping His words that diminishes the propensity of men to act in accord with “the works of the flesh“. It IS the reality of looking past the self, past the nurturing, the indoctrination into the ways of the world, and one’s years of thought, attitude and experience, that ARE the more difficult parts of the illusion and the glamour in which the lives of men ARE thrust. We should ever remember and understand that after the gross carnal ideas of men ARE overcome that there ARE still those other ideas that ARE a part of the human experience, ideas which keep a man separated from God. The reality of this charge of making disciples of others IS found in the simplicity of Jesus’ own words saying that the disciple should be “teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I commanded you“; how this has devolved into the teaching of doctrines IS the reality of the lack of egkrateia in the doctrinal church and this IS but a symbol of the lack of the needed measure of ALL of “the fruit of the Spirit“. Much the same can be found in the baptism of the Holy Spirit which IS likely modeled after the ideas from the Book of Acts where the Apostles Peter and John “laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost” (Acts 8:17).

While the whole of this experience of being baptized in the Holy Spirit IS presumed to be linked to the laying on of hands, the deeper reality IS found in our trifecta where the Presence of God comes to the man who will strive to keep His words. And more to our point we should try to see how that those who DO such laying on of hands today miss the point that this was done by actual apostles, men who were True disciples, wherein comes their authority to DO so which IS, frankly, their ability to show the way to Truth. Most importantly ALL seem to miss the point of immersion; most ALL miss the point that disciples should make disciples of others by immersing them in the Truth of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit and that it IS the effect of this immersion that will be “teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I commanded you“. We close today by repeating the story of the pickle:

Not to be confused with 911, bapto. The clearest example that shows the meaning of baptizo is a text from the Greek poet and physician Nicander, who lived about 200 B.C. It is a recipe for making pickles and is helpful because it uses both words. Nicander says that in order to make a pickle, the vegetable should first be ‘dipped'(bapto) into boiling water and then ‘baptised’ (baptizo) in the vinegar solution. Both verbs concern the immersing of vegetables in a solution. But the first is temporary. The second, the act of baptising the vegetable, produces a permanent change. When used in the New Testament, this word more often refers to our union and identification with Christ than to our water baptism. e.g.Mark 16:16. ‘He that believes and is baptised shall be saved’. Christ is saying that mere intellectual assent is not enough. There must be a union with him, a real change, like the vegetable to the pickle!2

We will continue with our thoughts in the next post.

Aspect <del></del>of God

Potency

Aspect of Man

In Relation to the Great Invocation

In relation to the Christ

GOD, The Father

Will or Power

Spirit or Life

Center where the Will of God IS KNOWN

Life

Son, The Christ

Love and Wisdom

Soul or Christ Within

Heart of God

Truth

Holy Spirit

Light or Activity

Life Within

Mind of God

Way

Note on the Quote of the Day

This daily blog also has a Quote of the Day which may not be in any way related to the essay. In this affirmation we find the Truth of discipleship as we have been ever been expressing and here we can relate our themes of the last few days; “take no thought” for the things of the world and that we approach the Kingdom and discipleship in the nature of the little child, in humbleness, meekness, unashamed in any way and unassuming. The message that this imparts for us today IS that it IS the Soul that is at work in the world of men as it expresses to some degree the purpose, power and the will through Life in this world. These words are from a meditation offered to his students by our Tibetan brother and in which we find greater understanding of the message of the Master. This IS Truly the way of the disciple.

My Soul has purpose, power and will; these three are needed on the Way of Liberation.

My Soul must foster love among the sons of men; this is its major purpose.

I, therefore, will to love and tread the Way of Love.
