IN THE WORDS OF JESUS–Part 255

Love is the Fulfilling of the Law

ON GOD; Part XLII

We begin today with a look at the Third Aspect of the Trinity, the Holy Spirit. There is much confusion in the world today regarding this aspect. The Holy Spirit is generally understood as the Spirit of God and from the perspective of the man in form this is an accurate depiction though for us not a complete one. There is much said about the Holy Spirit in some quarters of the church and to many the Holy Spirit is viewed as an outside force that one can call into action. Like the other Aspects, the Father and the Son, the Holy Spirit is generally seen as outside and apart from man which can come into one’s Life making the man ‘Spirit filled’ so called and this in the context of the gifts of the Spirit that we discussed in our last post. This idea of Spirit filled is also seen by some as taking action in church services where He is seen as the Spirit of God that comes upon a service effecting the participants with a sense of His presence. It is not our purpose to explain these phenomenon but rather to discuss the Holy Spirit as an Aspect of the One God that is the Activity of the manifested Christ in the world of form and to do so as He is reflected on by the Christ and the apostles in the New Testament. To this end we begin with our chart as our primary point of reference.

“For it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father which speaketh in you

(Matthew 10:20)
This is the Holy Spirit, the “Spirit of your Father“. Up to now we have spoken of the Christ Within as that aspect of man that is expressed through his personality consciousness and this is exactly what the Master is Speaking of here in this saying as He is sending out the twelve to “peach, saying, that The kingdom of heaven is at hand” (Matthew 10:7). There is an understanding of the way that this is working out that is not understood by many today and it is this that we will explore. The Master does not speak of the Christ Within and speaks only loosely about the Soul and we should remember here two things; first that He is speaking to them in parable and second that He is speaking over 2000 years ago about a thing that had never yet been learned. For us today there is a different atmosphere about these things; we have the words of the apostles, especially Paul, that tell us of the Christ Within and the potency of the Christ; in this day back when it was happening there was likely only awe on the part of the disciples and obedience to His word by Faith. The understanding of these things comes from the Soul, from the Christ Within; it was so with the apostles and disciples at the beginning and it is so today. What we learn in school and in Life is worldly knowledge; what we get from above is heavenly. This idea is covered in John’s Gospel as a saying John the Baptist. John’s Gospel contains much of the Truly revealing scriptures on the ministry and sayings of the Baptist as well as of the Christ and this saying is steeped in Truth and a reality that even today we can only glimpse. The Baptist says: “He that cometh from above is above all: he that is of the earth is earthly , and speaketh of the earth: he that cometh from heaven is above all” (John 3:31). What do we see here but the Soul and the personality. John is speaking of the Master but at the same time he is speaking of the divine nature of us all. “He that cometh from above” is the Christ Within, the Soul and “he that is of the Earth” is the personality, the man in form. The personality without the Christ Within expressing through it “speaketh of the earth” and this is the way of the great majority of mankind but when the Christ Within is the focus of one’s Life and the Christ Within is being expressed through the personality, it is then “he that cometh from heaven” and he “is above all“. So we can see that it is still the Christ Within “which speaketh in you” and the realization of this is in the Master’s saying that “I and my Father are one” (John 10:30) which thing being True of Christ is True of man as well because “as he is, so are we in this world” (1 John 4:17). At the same time, this “Spirit of your Father” is also the Holy Spirit which is the expression of the Christ Within, the Soul, through the personality and in the world.
Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you
(John 14:17)
We must remember that there is hidden value to all of these sayings by by the Master for, as we have said, they are couched in parables that still today are not fully understood by any man who is not focused on the spiritual Life and following the Master and keeping His words. Though we have not broached this before, we should be able to see in certain of His sayings an intentionally mysterious wording through which we must look to see the reality as it effects the man. Heretofore we have seen this all as the Master talking just of Himself and of that other Aspect of God which He here calls the “Spirit of Truth” and these have been viewed as powers that are totally outside of us. But the Master delivers for us the key to all such sayings when He tells us that thing that has not been accepted for over 2000 years; “behold , the kingdom of God is within you” (Luke 17:21). Can we understand through this saying that we should be looking for the Kingdom and for our God and for His Christ and His Holy Spirit within each and every one of us and this is repeated for us in this saying above as the Master tells us that “he dwelleth with you“. Now we understand that the word translated as dwelleth is better translated as abide and should be seen to mean Live so that we can read this as the Spirit Lives with the man which is followed then by the King James Version (KJV) words “and shall be in you” which is translated by others as will be and still others as is in you. Following along with this we can restate it as to say that the “”Spirit of Truth” or the Holy Spirit “whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not” which is to say that the world of men, being focused on the world is not seeing the Christ Within or the Soul, not sensing the presence, and “neither knoweth him” because there is not focus and not heeding of the call of the Soul. But to us, His aspiring disciples, we know “know him” because we are focused upon the spiritual Life and we are hearing the call of the Soul which brings us the Light and the Good, the Beautiful and the True and we see that “he dwelleth with” us as He Lives in us ALL; but, as this is our realization as aspirants, we KNOW that He IS in us. Finally, working now through the personality we have the Christ Within in expression in the world and this we call the Holy Spirit.
Of course this is not the normal understanding of the Holy Spirit but neither does our perspective on Christ and the Father fit into the normal ideas of these Aspects of God that are prevalent in the world today. On the larger scale the Holy Spirit is, as the chart suggests, the Activity of God in the world and this Activity is Light or the Energy that is behind ALL forms. Our words on this from a previous post put this into this context saying that we have a triplicity, a Trinity if you will, of Love, the Son; Life, the Father; and Truth, the Reality that IS or the Holy Spirit. In this we should see the eternal correspondences of man to God. In this we should be able to see the ideas from our chart in a slightly different Light. God IS; He is Will and He is Power and these are ultimately the same thing; the Will of God IS His Power and His Power IS His Will and both of these are essentially LIFE. In the Son we have the manifestation of that which IS and in this we should not mistake the manifestation that we see and hear around us but rather see this as the manifestation of the Kingdom of God, the Kingdom of Heaven and the place where the reality of man exists which, from the perspective of manifestation, is the Soul. In the Prologue of John’s Gospel we are told that “All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men” (John 1:3-4) and in this we have the manifestation of ALL things from the perspective of the reality of Life and that again is the Life of the Soul. Similarly we can see the idea of “In him was life” as He carries into the manifestation the Life that IS; the idea also of  the “light of men” as the Christ is the reality of the manifest state of things in ALL correspondences including man and the entirety of the Creation. If we can but glimpse this we will have accomplished much in the way of understanding those things that are beyond the ken of the personality except when it functions in the Light of the Soul.
Finally, in the Holy Spirit we have the Activity and the Light of God in manifestation, in the world. While we may refer to the Heavenly Realm as the reality of things we cannot overlook the reality of the physical manifestation as this Truly exists as well. However, from the perspective of man it is of secondary importance as it is not the realm in which we Truly exist but it is the realm in which we function until such a time as we can reveal the fullness of our Souls, our Christ Within, through the form nature. We should understand here that the Holy Spirit is not the physical manifestation itself per se but it is rather the Light, the Energy that motivates the physical; the Holy Spirit is the Active Energy of the Universe and of the man. This is a complex and perhaps an overwhelming subject to discuss as words and language do no allow for any accurate description of the reality that IS God. This being said, let us look a bit deeper to see that this Activity, this Light that IS the Energy underlying ALL things is the REALITY of the physical manifestation of the Universe and from the perspective of the man, this REALITY is the Spirit of Truth for REALITY, from our perspective in form, is Truth. This is the Holy Spirit.
Closing today we should look at one other very complex thing to understand and touch upon it briefly. This human form, this body and this personality, are not the man but just the form through which the Soul, the Christ Within functions and this we have said before. We add today another twist however in saying that the True man, the Soul, has no part in this body except to build it and to use it and that for the man the Aspect that IS the Holy Spirit is but the Activity of the Christ Within which is the Life and the Consciousness that we are. We will continue with these  thoughts in the next post and will close with our line from a previous post that relates the above to the Love that IS God and the Christ who is “the way, the truth, and the life” (John 14:6):

This LOVE is therefore the Way to God, this LOVE is the Truth in our existence and this LOVE IS  the Life of God, for “God is Love“.

Note on the Quote of the Day

This daily blog also has a Quote of the Day which may not be in any way related to the essay. Many of these will be from the Bible and some just prayers or meditations that may have an influence on you and are in line with the subject matter of this blog. As the quote will change daily and will not store with the post, it is repeated in this section with the book reference and comment.

We leave this Quote of the Day again for today. It is another revelation of the Holy Spirit and it is likely that there is enough above to ponder on for one day.

Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come (John 16:13)

This is a repeat of a Quote of the Day from early on in our blog and one which has significant meaning to our upcoming topic on the Third Aspect of God, the Holy Spirit. While it may seem to some that this long journey through the idea of Love as taught by the Master and by the apostles is unrelated to the Aspects of God,  the reality is that since “God is Love” all of the Aspects of His Being are Love as well but this is especially True as regards the Son which is the manifestation of the Love of God. We will bring this idea together with the Third Aspect and should remember our preliminary understanding of the Holy Spirit as the Activity of His Love in this world.
