Wakefulness is the way to life. The fool sleeps As if he were already dead, But the master is awake And he lives forever. He watches. He is clear. How happy he is! For he sees that wakefulness is life. How happy he is, Following the path of the awakened. With great perseverance He meditates, seeking Freedom and happiness. So awake, reflect, watch. Work with care and attention. Live in the way And the light will grow in you. By watching and working The master makes for himself an island Which the flood cannot overwhelm. The fool is careless. But the master guards his watching. It is his most precious treasure. He never gives in to desire. He meditates. And in the strength of his resolve He discovers true happiness. He overcomes desire – And from the tower of his wisdom He looks down with dispassion Upon the sorrowing crowd. From the mountain top He looks down at those Who live close to the ground. Mindful among the mindless, Awake while others dream, Swift as the race horse He outstrips the field. By watching Indra became king of the gods. How wonderful it is to watch. How foolish to sleep. The beggar who guards his mind And fears the waywardness of his thoughts Burns through every bond With the fire of his vigilance. The beggar who guards his mind And fears his own confusion Cannot fall. He has found his way to peace5.
Yesterday’s post, while from a different angle, was on our current subject of the nature of and the constitution of man as depicted in our chart below. We noted how the idea of the Son Aspect of God can be seen as the Christ Aspect as well and we did revise the chart accordingly. Looking then at the Son of God with God, the Father, as the Will or Power of Life itself we should then seen also the Soul as this same Aspect in regards to man so that the Son and the Soul and the Christ and the Christ within can be understood in the same way except that man is the microcosm to God as the Macrocosm. Looking from this perspective, the Macrocosm as God and the microcosm as man, we should be able to understand two things; first the nature of man and second the nature of Jesus. While this is all likely unacceptable to the average Christian, Jesus was a man as we are men; the only difference that we can understand is that He came among us as the Soul, the Christ, fully expressing through the form Jesus and this expression is what we will come to KNOW as the Holy Spirit. This we see in our chart as in the correspondences of the Spirit of God which was in the Master and which He speaks of, the Christ of God which is the essence of the expression of the Love of God and thereby the expression of the Master in the world and the Holy Spirit of God which is the actual expression of this Love and Light and Power in the world of form. This is our Trinity, it is not a magical or supernatural thing but it is the nature of the Christ as Jesus and the nature of the Christ as each one of us who can express this Love and Light and Power in the world.

These things are attested to by the Master and by His apostles. The Master tells us of the ONENESS of ALL these aspects as we pointed out in the last post. In sayings like “At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you” (John 14:20) we should find the necessary understanding if we can look at them away from the established doctrines of the churches. Reading the commentary on this verse we find that the framework for proper understanding is there but the execution is lost in doctrine. When we can see Christ in two ways, as the Cosmic Aspect of the Great and Awesome God that we cannot see nor understand, and as the Soul, the Christ Aspect of the man, we can burn through much of the misunderstanding and the lore that the doctrines of the churches have established. Even established doctrine is torn between the ideas of the humanity and the divinity of Jesus and much is taught to separate Jesus from the rest of humanity on grounds that He is more divine or closer to God. This is a true concept, that He is more divine than the rest of humanity and that He is closer to God but the reality of this is not in His separate nature but in His human nature as seen from the perspective of the man who lives in accordance with the Master’s own saying that “Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect” (Matthew 5:48) and it is in this perfection that Jesus is born and in this perfection that Jesus lived so that the full potency of the Christ is expressed by Him and this in accordance with the words of the Apostle Paul saying that “For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily” (Colossians 2:9). The Master’s admonition to us ALL is to live the way that He lived and this is in the same perfection that is of the Father.
In the Life of Jesus and in the Life of the Apostle Peter we can find the Life of everyman who is intent on expressing his own divinity in the world. Jesus gave us a Life of example of the perfection of man, the full expression of the Christ Within through the Life in form and there is none that can in good conscience doubt that this is True. What we read in the gospels of His Life and His nature is repeated for us by His apostles so that we can see things clearly and the epitome of it ALL is found in Paul’s saying above as this perfection is found in this “fulness of the Godhead“. In the Life of the Apostle Peter we find a similar idea except here we see the struggle that each of us faces to first achieve discipleship and then to perfect our own ability to be His disciple and to be as He is. The Life of Peter is intentionally scripted throughout the gospels to give us this message and we read of his trials and tribulations from first becoming a disciple to becoming a perfected disciple who can heal by his very proximity. The Master tells us that this is where we as men must be headed, that this is our objective in Life and this we can read in these words spoken to His disciples: “The disciple is not above his master: but every one that is perfect shall be as his master” (Luke 6:40)
We close with fewer words today but these are important words that we can find relevance for in the gospels and the works of His disciples and this last two days work has brought us to the realization that the Master, the Christ in Jesus, is the same in essence as we are the Christ Within each of us in form. We are essentially the same and much in scripture tells us that this is true; as a man I can say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me and I can say as a Soul that I and the Christ are ONE and that the expression of this Spirit and Soul through form is the Holy Spirit, the Love and the Power of the Christ Within in the world.
These are not easy things to understand and we will continue with our thoughts in the next post.
Note on the Quote of the Day
This daily blog also has a Quote of the Day which may not be in any way related to the essay. Many of these will be from the Bible and some just prayers or meditations that may have an influence on you and are in line with the subject matter of this blog. As the quote will change daily and will not store with the post, it is repeated in this section with the book reference and comment.
Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born? Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit (John 3:3-8)
Today’s Quote of the Day is in regard to the new birth which Nicodemus did not understand and which many today do not understand either. The words of the Master tell us of a total commitment to the Lord as the way to the Kingdom and these verses say that as well. This total commitment is being born again. The differences in language aside, we should try to see the relationship between these ideas of being born again which is the essence of discipleship for it is only in discipleship that one can Truly see the Kingdom. These are much misused ideas because they are seen from the perspective of the man in form and no from the perspective of the Soul living through form.
