And God said , Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth. And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat. And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so. And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day. Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made. These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens, And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the LORD God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground. But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground. And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed. And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil. And a river went out of Eden to water the garden; and from thence it was parted, and became into four heads. The name of the first is Pison: that is it which compasseth the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold;  And the gold of that land is good: there is bdellium and the onyx stone. And the name of the second river is Gihon: the same is it that compasseth the whole land of Ethiopia. And the name of the third river is Hiddekel: that is it which goeth toward the east of Assyria. And the fourth river is Euphrates. And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it. And the LORD God commanded the man, saying , Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die. And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him. And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof. And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him. And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh. And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed” (Genesis 1:26-2:25).

Our point of discussion over the last several posts:

  • Next we have the creation of the woman who was, according to the text, already created with the man during the creation in the image of God. Again this is either repetition and explanation or it yet another step in the bringing forth of the spiritual man into the Earth. There is another rather obscure saying in Genesis which may go well here: “And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose” (Genesis 6:1-2).
  • Amended statement: First, we should rephrase this as it is technically not right and this is the first that we have actually reread this point with earnest. The woman is created in the same time as the man from the perspective of the way it is written for us when God says: “Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind” (Genesis 1:24). This is the creation of ALL animal bodies and the human man and the human woman are among these. In the next verses we come to the Creation of man “in the image of God” and this we recognize as the manifestation of Spirit as Souls in the Kingdom of God where there are no sexes and this we will try to make clearer as we proceed. Our text for today is concerned with these verses which we place here again for clarity and we will say much here that is alien to the common understanding….even more so that what we have been writing.

And the LORD God said  It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him. And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man” (Genesis 2:18-22).

Repeating again the text of the point that we are covering plus our revision of that point from the ‘controversial’ points listed a few posts back (In the Words of Jesus part 512) regarding the ideas we sought to discuss concerning the overall tenor of the Creation of man as it is written in the First and the Second Chapters of the Book of Genesis. We have covered much while never realizing how much there was to discuss on these points regarding the origin of man and the treatment of his origin in the traditions and the doctrines of the churches. So much of what a man is told to believe today by the church is based upon the ages old interpretations and an ofttimes literal view of these words that were written in simplicity for a humanity that was rather simple, superstitious and emotionally driven. We have been discussing this point that appears above regarding the creation of the form of the woman which we regard as the repeating by the writer of the origin of the form of the male with some variation which we will get to soon. The understanding that we should take regarding the bringing into this physical form the Life of a Soul thus creating, as we found earlier in the story of Adam, the reality that “man became a living soul“. These ideas are of course in opposition to the teachings of the church which tell us that each birth on Earth is the creation by God of a ‘new’ Soul and we have spoken of this idea numerous times from the perspective of the impossibility of its realty based upon our reading of the teachings of the Master and His apostles.

If we are to believe that “God is no respecter of persons” (Acts 10:34), then we CAN NOT believe at the same time that each birth upon this Earth is the creation of a ‘new’ Soul as there is then NO way to account for the divergence of the quality of Life for those born into this world. We must see in this idea that the reality of this respect is that it is used to mean that God shows NO individual regard for persons, NO partiality, and in this we have the reality of Life on this Earth. We can try to affix this divergence onto the idea of free will but this does nothing for the reality of the way a child is born as many of the maladies of the man are with him from birth. And, if we still believe that free will can be the answer, how can we account for the reality of the young man who never has the  opportunity to “arise and go to my father” because he met with some calamity; plus, from the Christian perspective, how do we account for the idea that ALL those who do not come to the Christian version of Christ are lost when this would account for the majority of the persons born on this Earth. There IS NO sign of a JUST GOD in these things that can befall a man or a child or the yet unborn; there IS NO impartiality in this. And, this idea that God shows no partiality to ANY man in form in the Earth, save those that can say with the Master “I have overcome the world” (John 16:33) which persons can be seen as disciples and no longer of the world as Jesus tells us in His prayer saying of His disciples “They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world” (John 17:16), is a reality. We should recognize also that this idea of “God is no respecter of persons” IS NOT an isolated sentiment given by the Apostle Peter in a certain situation but that it runs throughout the Master’s teachings and the words of His apostles:

  • Speaking about how a man should treat others, the Master tells us of the general attitude of Our God saying: “That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust” (Matthew 5:45).
  • The Apostle Paul repeats this for us several times:
    • For there is no respect of persons with God” (Romans 2:11).
    • Speaking on how one should treat his brother as did the Master above, Paul tells us “knowing that your Master also is in heaven; neither is there respect of persons with him” (Ephesians 6:9).
    • Speaking of the equality of reward and punishment from God which is to that regardless of who one is, that all things are equal, Paul says: “Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ. But he that doeth wrong shall receive for the wrong which he hath done: and there is no respect of persons” (Colossians 3:24-25). We should see here that the rendering of this equal measure is not in this world but that it is accrued to the Soul for if were of this world how do we account for the ‘evil’, worldly grounded man, gaining fame and fortune while the humble and spiritually oriented man gains only disdain and persecution from those above him in worldly ways.
  • Peter repeats his own refrain in his writing saying that: “And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man’s work” (1 Peter 1:17).
  • Finally we have the Apostle James who makes this same idea a truly personal one that we must realize in our interactions with others:
    • My brethren, have not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect of persons. For if there come unto your assembly a man with a gold ring, in goodly apparel, and there come in also a poor man in vile raiment; And ye have respect to him that weareth the gay clothing, and say unto him, Sit thou here in a good place; and say to the poor, Stand thou there, or sit here under my footstool: Are ye not then partial in yourselves, and are become judges of evil thoughts? Hearken , my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him? But ye have despised the poor. Do not rich men oppress you, and draw you before the judgment seats? Do not they blaspheme  that worthy name by the which ye are called ? If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well: But if ye have respect to persons , ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors” (James 2:1-9).

Can we understand that in James’ words we find that having “respect of persons” is a thing of the world, it is sin and, seeing this is so, can we in any way assume that this same “respect of persons” could be a thing of God? And we should NOT think that James is referring to riches only but status also and whatsoever general themes reside with these ideas.

We again have spent much time reviewing the reasons why the ideas that we are presenting here have some sense of reality as their basis, that much is grounded in the words of the Master and His apostles and, while we may seemingly go far afield in our premises, we are generally more consistent with the given reality that we receive from the Master’s teachings than are the doctrines. In this is a reason that much that we say can seemingly be seen as far afield as it is doctrine the many believe is the reality of scripture because this doctrine is most all that they hear, KNOW and believe. This brings us again to some of the words that started us on this course many posts back as the Master tells us: “Take heed what ye hear: with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you: and unto you that hear shall more be given. For he that hath, to him shall be given: and he that hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he hath” (Mark 4:24-25). We should note here again that the Master says these words to His disciples and not about the things of the world but rather as a part of His explanation to them of the Parable of the Sower which they did not really understand. We discuss these ideas in some detail in In the Words of Jesus parts 500, 501, 516 and although the True meaning of the words may remain unclear, we can take away the realty of the caution and that when we believe Truth and Wisdom we can attain even greater and when we do not, we are swallowed up by the untruths and worldly ways at an even greater pace. As aspirants we must be careful as Jesus cautions us and we should realize that most all that we do hear and tend to believe in ALL parts of Life are seldom based on the Truth and the Wisdom from above as we have defined it from the words of James.

Having said these things we again apply them to our subject matter which is a difficult one. Not so much to understand but more to accept because what we see and feel has formed what we believe and these things we are saying are rather contrary to those beliefs. While we have been saying for more than a year that we are not this body and personality but we ARE the Souls, the True man which is the Christ Within, these has been just spiritually oriented words for many and our  speaking of the nature of the Soul, the constitution of man and the afterlife likely seem to some as fanciful jabber. Here however, in this discussion of the creation of man, these words take on a more serious tone and the actual idea of a Soul taking to himself a form can cause discomfort for some as these ideas are propounded in the Light of scripture. Moreover the idea of the reality of the human animal form and the restriction of the sexes to that form is contrary to the way that people view themselves and identify themselves as men or women or even gay, as black or white or brown, and this even reaches down to what one does as one can say claim their identity as a housewife, a laborer, an executive or a teacher. Add to this nationality and religion and even the state and city in which one lives and we can hear a person define themselves as a black female schoolteacher who and a Mexican Catholic or we might hear one say that they are a white gay American male. In neither case here do we have the True identity of the conscious man in form; his True identity is as a Soul expressing through the form and personality of the white gay American male or as a Soul expressing through the black female Mexican Catholic schoolteacher. We should understand here that regardless of the appearances, our idea of expressing through does have is a reality to it; while the ultimate of this expression is discipleship there is a infinite range of degree of accomplishment in any given incarnation and it is likely that in most all of these there is some degree of progress spiritually, there is some thing accomplished that will be built upon in a future incarnation.

By our premise the ultimate of expression is discipleship and the ultimate of discipleship is Transfiguration or what Paul tells us is “the redemption of our body” (Romans 8:23); this is our goal and our objective as Souls. This brings us back to the point of origin of this experience that we call Life in form and to the ‘creation’ or the ‘formation’ of the first man and the first woman which we see as two Souls who, for the Life that they spend as Adam and as Eve, take on the role of the male and the female with all of the complications that the idea of sex provides in physical form Life. As we have earlier said, we cannot tell if Adam and Eve are singular or if they are many as in many men and many women beginning the journey of incarnated Life in form and, we do not KNOW why this all IS except by the hint that we receive from Paul above, that it is ALL about redemption, it is ALL about lifting the very matter of the bodies into a higher state of being and moving ourselves higher at the same time. This can be understood individually and corporately, and we should understand here the reality that the Souls that are the True men incarnating through form are ever Pure and unblemished and there is no redemption due in this respect; at least none that we could comprehend from our little point of view.

We will continue with our thoughts in the next post and try to get back to our primary discussion from the Book of Genesis and our last point below.

  • Last we have the trees; “the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil“.

Note on the Quote of the Day

This daily blog also has a Quote of the Day which may not be in any way related to the essay. Many of these will be from the Bible and some just prayers or meditations that may have an influence on you and are in line with the subject matter of this blog. As the quote will change daily and will not store with the post, it is repeated in this section with the book reference and comment:

We repeat here again a saying that is from the Bhagavad Gita and which goes well with our topic over the last several days. Today we see the God Within us as the Christ Within and this is good in the Christian world and this is True based upon our understanding of the Christ as the manifestation of God. We should see that it matters not what we call this Inner Man as it is the same in ALL, it is the Soul.

Thou carriest within thee a sublime Friend whom thou knowest not. For God dwells in the inner part of every man, but few know how to find Him. The man who sacrifices his desires and his works to the Beings from whom the principles of everything stem, and by whom the Universe was formed, through this sacrifice attains perfection. For one who finds his happiness and joy within himself, and also his wisdom within himself is one with God. And, mark well, the soul which has found God is freed from rebirth and death, from old age and pain, and drinks the water of Immortality.—Bhagavad-Gita

It is difficult to tell just what verses of the Bhagavad Gita the above is from; whether it is a paraphrase or a combination. It is from the book “The Great Initiates” by Édouard Schuré which was originally published in French in 1889 and perhaps it is in the translation of the verses that they become hard to recognize. However, the sheer beauty of the presentation caught my attention and so I share it with you. The Path to the Kingdom is the same no matter what religion one professes.
