“And God said , Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth. And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat. And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so. And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day. Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made. These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens, And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the LORD God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground. But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground. And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed. And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil. And a river went out of Eden to water the garden; and from thence it was parted, and became into four heads. The name of the first is Pison: that is it which compasseth the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold; And the gold of that land is good: there is bdellium and the onyx stone. And the name of the second river is Gihon: the same is it that compasseth the whole land of Ethiopia. And the name of the third river is Hiddekel: that is it which goeth toward the east of Assyria. And the fourth river is Euphrates. And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it. And the LORD God commanded the man, saying , Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die. And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him. And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof. And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him. And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh. And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed” (Genesis 1:26-2:25).
As we approach Christmas 2012 we are reminded that this day of celebration is intended to celebrate the birth of the Christ in the world and while this is interpreted as the birth of Jesus, we should understand that it is much more as here, in Bethlehem more than 2000 years ago, the very Love of God is made manifest to men as Jesus is born THE CHRIST, THE ANOINTED ONE. This is a singularly unique event in the history of mankind as it marks the first time that a the Potency of an Aspect of God is made available to humanity as a GUIDING LIGHT and as the precursor of a NEW AGE. In His teaching the Master tells us that it is no longer sufficient to follow the law and to be devoted to the things of God but that in this NEW AGE being accounted worthy will no longer be measured by the law but by the expression of that same Love that IS the Christ and therefore, the Christ Within every man. His lesson is clear and it is simple and yet it is ever so difficult to pull away from the eons of conditioning that the race has incurred in the ways of the world. But, we should remember that it is the Master who tells us of this difficulty and it is the Master who tells us to STRIVE and it is the Master who tells us the Truth that the reward for righteousness, FULL righteousness, is within each and every one of us in the FULL realization of His Kingdom.
In our Quote of the Day below we see, from a different perspective, this same teaching of the Christ Within spoken about as God within and we KNOW that as the Master tells us that the Christ and the Father ARE ONE. We should be reminded here that the Master teaches us by parable and in many ways in incomplete thoughts that we, as True followers and believers, must discern for ourselves; to this end we also have the writings of His apostles which serve to amplify and to at times clarify Jesus’ words. In this case of the Christ Within we have this dynamic at play and we should understand that this refers to every man and that the reality of this is in one’s realization of the Truth and through focus upon the things of God….this is ever the teaching behind the words. The Master goes to great lengths to teach His disciples of His ONENESS with the Father God and of their ONENESS with Him and the Apostle Paul clarifies the meaning of this in his own simple words; let us look at this briefly before we continue with our theme from Genesis:
- The Master tells us that “I and my Father are one” (John 10:30) and so that we do not get sidetracked by the idea of Jesus taking possession in the idea of “my Father” we should remember His other sayings where He teaches us of the Fatherhood of God and in the Prayer where He teaches us to do the same saying “Our Father which art in heaven” (Matthew 6:9).
- In His prayer near the end the Master says “That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us” (John 17:21) and in this we should understand that this is not merely a reward of believing in Him from the common understanding, it is the reward of discipleship as ALL become ONE in His Kingdom which is WITHIN. We understand this believing in and believing on as that we accept and adopt His precepts and example as binding upon the life 4 and we should understand as well that this reward is not that ‘he comes to live in us that believe’ but rather that we realize, that we KNOW, of His presence which, while it was always there, was never seen or heard until we began to focus our lives upon Him.
- That we KNOW that this idea of the Christ IS WITHIN as IS His Kingdom, Paul tells us that “Whereof I am made a minister, according to the dispensation of God which is given to me for you, to fulfil the word of God; Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints: To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory” (Colossians 1:25-27). In our talk of the Genesis of man we refer to the mysteries that “have been kept secret from the foundation of the world” (Matthew 13;35) which are the words of the Master repeating those of the prophet and it is here in Paul’s words that we get a deeper look at what that mystery is and He clearly states this to his own disciples saying “Christ in you, the hope of glory“.
In these points we should have the understanding that the Christ Within IS and that the Christ Within is the God Within and, combined with the right understanding of the Master’s words saying that “the kingdom of God is within you” (Luke 17:21) should give us two things. First that the Christ Within and the God Within and the Kingdom Within are all rather synonymous and can be related to the Trinity which we have spoken about in previous posts. And, second, that by His words in Luke’s Gospel which He speaks to the assembled people including the Pharisee and of course the evil and the good, that He tells us that this is True for ALL. Hence the similarity then to the Quote of the Day from the Bhagavad~Gita where we read that God dwells in each of us and that we must find Him which is done by our focus upon His things and not the things of the World.
So then, in this Christmas Season, we should not be ONLY looking to the past in celebration of His Coming but we should at the same time be celebrating the Birth of the Christ in the cave of our own hearts which we understand as the consciousness by which we govern our personalities. This idea of heart is clarified for us in the Master’s words which we often discuss as He tells us that a man focused upon God brings Good treasure from his heart, his consciousness while the man focused on evil, on the things of the world, brings forth such from his. His words are simple and clear saying:
-
“A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things” (Matthew 12:35).
- Slightly different in Luke where we can liken speaking to thinking and acting on those thoughts: “A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh” (Luke 6:45).
- And most succinctly He tells us “For where your treasure is , there will your heart be also” (Matthew 6:21, Luke 12:34)
When we can realize that our treasure is our focus and those things that we attend to and pay attention to and that our heart, our consciousness, is our very being here in form, we can make much progress toward Truly realizing the Christ Within as that Love that IS the Christ begins to flow though our lives. And this we can say as a Christmas message, that when the Christ is Born in the Cave of the Heart we are Truly seeing Christmas and the celebration of this day each year should bring to mind that the birth of the Christ Child is the birth of Love and, as the clarion cry of the Angels and the Heavenly Host at His birth say,: “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men” (Luke 2:14).
We continue now with our topic from the last post and this saying below:
“And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose……there were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown” (Genesis 6:1-2, 4).
As we have said, these sayings are much overlooked or are seen by some as a prelude to the calling of Noah and the great flood but this is not borne out by the words as they appear. They are obscure and difficult to understand and perhaps this is why they are not treated with the attention that we are giving them in our posts. We have posited a different reality in the chapters of Genesis and it is this position that we have established that we will use to complete our look at these words above. We should remember that it is our understanding that these misplaced words are where they are by intent and that the very wording places these happenings at any time from the time of Adam and Eve to the days of Noah; there is no way to tell what it Truly means when the writer says “when men began to multiply on the face of the earth“. We should also remember our thoughts on the Life of Adam and Eve, the creeping into their consciousness the ways of the world beginning with instincts and the appetites of the human body itself which is compounded by the added burden of emotion, a burden of course on the struggling Light of the Soul, the True man. It is in this condition that Eve falls prey to the ‘serpent’ and that both she and Adam are found to have fallen away from the Purity with which they had arrived and it is this condition that is the beginning of the vanity that Paul tells us of saying of ALL men that “the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly” (Romans 8:20). Now we should remember our premise is that Adam and Eve and ALL that they may represent are direct incarnations into the human animal form, that they have moved from Purity to the carnal world while KNOWING that this is what they had done. From this point on however the process of incarnation takes place in the reproductive cycle of the man and woman in the Earth and these incarnating Souls, having to go through the stages of infant and child, DO NOT KNOW what they have done although in effect they have done the same thing as Adam and Eve.
So then “men began to multiply on the face of the earth“, they are now men that do not have conscious recollection of the Purity that the Truly are as Souls but they must be brought to this understanding much the same as we must today; by the leading words of others and the continual calling of our own Souls. In our subject text we can see the reality then of men multiplying in this condition of worldly men with few to teach them the reality of Life; perhaps here we have men that are totally lost in the carnal Life and hence the continuing story and the isolated talk of daughters. It is only daughters that can reproduce and in these verses this is their purpose but then who are these Sons of God? Remembering again the initial times of Adam and Eve, the times when they were still in Purity and still in the ‘garden’, we should try to grasp the reality that these were Sons of God who were directly incarnated and our premise here will take into consideration this same dynamic. Looking at the text we see two ideas:
- “sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives”. Here we should see that the Sons of God are not the “men began to multiply on the face of the earth“; these Sons of God are called out as separate individuals from the men in the Earth and here we can see the same type of dynamic as we see in the incarnation of Adam, as he takes to himself a form. We have no way of telling if there are still human animal male bodies available or if these Sons of God took the bodies of men that were born as incarnating Souls and who had chosen to give up their Life for the Kingdom and to the Sons of God. We also do not KNOW the relevance of the idea of giants. Nonetheless, we should try to take from these words the central idea although we KNOW not how it works our and this is that Sons of God; Souls who KNOW their Purity and are advanced enough to have overcome in some previous cycle the ways of the world.
- “when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown“. Part of this is covered in the point above as the Sons of God in the last sentence and while this may seem to some as strange and fanciful, it is no more so that the reality of the Virgin Mary being impregnated by the Holy Spirit; we also do not KNOW how this relationship between the Sons of God and the daughters of men actually works. Our key here is that the offspring of these unions are the “mighty men which were of old, men of renown” born in a controlled environment of Sons of God.
We have ofttimes spoken about our understanding that the Plan of God leaves nothing to chance and puts in place such measures so that the outcome is ensured and we see this most clearly in the Life of the Baptist and the close apostles of the Lord who are Souls that come into incarnation at the right times to assist and aid in the Plan of God. In this regard we find many players in the time of the birth of the Master who played their parts. we will discuss some of these as we continue with our daily thoughts on Christmas and as we complete our look at Genesis.
We will continue with our thoughts in the next post and continue on the the Trees in the point below.
- Last we have the trees; “the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil“.

Note on the Quote of the Day
This daily blog also has a Quote of the Day which may not be in any way related to the essay. Many of these will be from the Bible and some just prayers or meditations that may have an influence on you and are in line with the subject matter of this blog. As the quote will change daily and will not store with the post, it is repeated in this section with the book reference and comment:
We repeat here again a saying that is from the Bhagavad Gita and which goes well with our topic over the last several days. Today we see the God Within us as the Christ Within and this is good in the Christian world and this is True based upon our understanding of the Christ as the manifestation of God. We should see that it matters not what we call this Inner Man as it is the same in ALL, it is the Soul.
Thou carriest within thee a sublime Friend whom thou knowest not. For God dwells in the inner part of every man, but few know how to find Him. The man who sacrifices his desires and his works to the Beings from whom the principles of everything stem, and by whom the Universe was formed, through this sacrifice attains perfection. For one who finds his happiness and joy within himself, and also his wisdom within himself is one with God. And, mark well, the soul which has found God is freed from rebirth and death, from old age and pain, and drinks the water of Immortality.—Bhagavad-Gita
It is difficult to tell just what verses of the Bhagavad Gita the above is from; whether it is a paraphrase or a combination. It is from the book “The Great Initiates” by Édouard Schuré which was originally published in French in 1889 and perhaps it is in the translation of the verses that they become hard to recognize. However, the sheer beauty of the presentation caught my attention and so I share it with you. The Path to the Kingdom is the same no matter what religion one professes.
