IN THE WORDS OF JESUS–Part 373

Love is the Fulfilling of the Law

ON GOD; Part CLV

For every tree is known by his own fruit. For of thorns men do not gather figs, nor of a bramble bush gather they grapes. A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh” (Luke 6:44-45).

Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt , and where thieves break through and steal : But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt , and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also” (Matthew 6:19-21)

We spent our time yesterday on a topic that just came upon us in reading from Vincent’s writings on the Kingdom of God and the alternate form from the Gospel of Matthew of the Kingdom of Heaven. The reality for us is away from those doctrines that establish two Kingdoms and we should find amazement in this presentation. Much of what we read in support has no real basis in the gospels but only in trying to tie the Master’s words, which these are, to the Old Testament teachings which are elusive in regard to the whole Kingdom issue. It does appear to those who do see the reality of the issue as being just the term preferred by Matthew that the proponents of the two Kingdom doctrines are or were attempting to find valid reasons for the separation of the followers of Christ and the Christian Jew and then the Gentile also, from the rest of the ‘unbelieving’ Jews. Again there is no valid support for these doctrines. We went through this all to get to the suggestion by Vincent that As a present kingdom it is incomplete and in process of development. It is expanding in society like the grain of mustard seed (Matthew 13:31, 32); working toward the pervasion of society like the leaven in the lump (Matthew 13:33)4. From this we caught onto the idea of the expansion of the Kingdom in society like the grain of mustard seed; working toward the pervasion of society like the leaven in the lump. This should be for us a great Truth of the future of the Kingdom as more and more individuals are added which we had discussed in our text; this future need not be the completion of an individual’s work toward discipleship and the Kingdom but only the beginning.  When many are striving we can see Vincent’s thoughts coming closer to a reality and these ideas are the basic reasons for our posts; to awaken others to the reality of the Kingdom and the striving toward it through Love and Unity, Peace and Understanding, Wisdom and Right Discernment.

Returning now to our main topic of heart and Soul, we should here add that there are ever relationships between and within ALL things spiritual. Remembering that the “the kingdom of God is within you” (Luke 17:21) we should try to understand that the heart is the recipient of this Soul power which is in a strange but True way the Kingdom itself. How is this so?

  • The simple saying that “the kingdom of God is within you” should give us the realization that those who ‘live’ within the Kingdom are within a man as well and this is not an easy idea to comprehend; we should remember however the parabolic nature of the sayings of the Master as well as our total lack of understanding about the nature of God, the Christ and our own Souls. In right understanding we should be able to see that this is no more strange that the ideas of heaven and hell, of the reign of Satan and of that mystical place called heaven where we go after death if we are worthy.
  • From the statement above we should get two ideas and both of these can be seen as mystical in nature but this only from the perspective of the man in form. From the perspective of the Soul we would, if we were able by our accomplishment of discipleship, see this as the Way of the Spirit, the Way of God. The first  idea is that if this is the Kingdom of God, that God is present within it and thereby within us and this presence is for each of us our own Spirit and Soul which we should see, from our current perspective, as ONE. The second idea is the presence of every other Soul that has achieved this High Place called the Kingdom and this High Calling of discipleship; this is the culmination of the UNITY of ALL and the ONENESS.
  • These are deep mysteries, these are the those things of which the Master says to His disciples that: “Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 13:11) and it is ONLY in True discipleship that we can understand them. In this we should be able to glimpse the reality of our saying from yesterday that that a whole generation of enquirers may only produce one adept as these things are not learned but realized by one’s closeness to God and in the keeping of His word. There is no other way and although occultists and others have claimed to have the keys to this understanding and to these realizations, without being a True disciple there is but illusion and glamour albeit on a higher turn of the spiral. The True disciple is one who does follow the Master and keeps His words and this means of course ALL of them.
  • We have said before that the Soul is ever in the Kingdom and this is the Truth of the Kingdom being within a man as the Soul is within the man and is giving Life and consciousness to the form, the personality in the world. It is in bringing the consciousness to focus upon the Soul and the Higher Life instead of the personality and the worldly Life that is our objective and our goal and it is in this context that we have employed the idea of the Soul lending the consciousness to the Life in form. Again this is a difficult thing to understand but not any more difficult that our attempts to understand Life itself in any form or through any doctrine. Just a glimpse of the reality of this Life as it works out from the Soul through the Life in form can satisfy many questions and such a glimpse is only possible as one does as the Master instructs saying: “Strive to enter in at the strait gate” (Luke 13:24) which is setting one’s focus upon the things of God instead of the things of the world.
  • In the parabolic sayings of the Master regarding the relationship between Himself and the Father and Himself and His disciples, we should be able to see further into this mystery of things within. We should understand that this relationship is not limited to the disciple only as it is ALL men  who are qualify according to the saying of the Apostle John that “because as he is, so are we in this world” (1 John 4:17)…..it is however only the disciple who can realize this relationship. The Master tells us that “At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you” (John 14:20) and in this we can see again the idea of ONENESS although our understanding may be lacking.
  • As we discussed previously there is another defining saying regarding this ONENESS which also defines for us the mystery of it ALL, a mystery which can be realized by the True disciple. The Apostle Paul tells us that “Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints: To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory” (Colossians 1:26-27). We should note here that the Greek word that is translated as saints is the same one which provides the ‘holy‘ in Holy Ghost or Holy Spirit and this is, as we have said in the past, the nature of the True disciple as he has the Christ Within actively working through his Life in form and this activity itself is the Holy Spirit.

Having said all this we come back to the ideas of heart and Soul which we never really left as they are entwined in all we have to say above. In the last post on this subject we covered the idea of heart as the Hebrew word leb from the Old Testament and touched only briefly on it  from the perspective of the the words of the Master and His apostles. In the above points we drew heavily from yesterday’s post which was in regard to the Kingdom of God or of Heaven itself and in this we should be able to see and to somewhat understand the relationships. That is that the Kingdom and the Soul and the heart of man when it is focused upon the Soul are in reality all one subject.

There is much depth in our essay today which we will end here so at to not overwhelm the matter with too many words. We close here with the idea that the heart is for our purposes the consciousness of the man in form and with remembering our ideas from prior posts that it is the focus of the man, of his consciousness, which leads him to Life as controlled by the ways and the things of the world or Life as controlled by the Love and the Wisdom from above, from the Soul. This is the idea in our lead sayings above which we will discuss further in the next post.

Note on the Quote of the Day

This daily blog also has a Quote of the Day which may not be in any way related to the essay. Many of these will be from the Bible and some just prayers or meditations that may have an influence on you and are in line with the subject matter of this blog. As the quote will change daily and will not store with the post, it is repeated in this section with the book reference and comment.

We leave this Mantram of  Unification again for today as it does go well with our topic.

Today’s quote of the day is a repeat of the Mantram of Unification which is an affirmation of the Oneness of the human family from the perspective of the disciple and the aspirant and any who hold these ideals as important. In this we find the essence of the two ideas that we have discussed from Values to Live By and that these are firmly grounded in the desire to Love not hate; to serve and not exact due service and to heal and not to hurt. It is Love shown as Truth and justice that is at the heart of this mantram.

Mantram of Unification

The sons of men are one and I am one with them.
I seek to love, not hate;
I seek to serve and not exact due service;
I seek to heal, not hurt.

Let pain bring due reward of light and love.
Let the Soul control the outer form, and life and all events,
And bring to light the love that underlies the happenings of the time.

Let vision come and insight.
Let the future stand revealed.
Let inner union demonstrate and outer cleavages be gone.
Let love prevail.
Let all men love.

The Mantram of Unification is a meditation and a prayer that at first affirms the unity of all men and the Brotherhood of Man based on the Fatherhood of God. The first stanza sets forth several truly Christian ideals in Unity, Love, Service and Healing. The second stanza is a invocation to the Lord and to our own Souls asking that from the pain (if there can truly be any) incurred in focusing on the Spirit and not the world will come Light and Love into our lives and that we begin to function as Souls through our conscious personalities. We ask that the spiritual control of our lives will bring to light for us the Love that underlies world events; a Love that the world oriented man will not see working out behind the scenes and also that the Love that we bring forth, individually and as a world group, can be seen by all and ultimately in all. Finally, in the last stanza we ask for those things that are needed for Love to abound. Vision and insight so that we can direct our attention properly; revelation of the future in the sense that all can see the Power of Love in the world; inner union so that we do not fall back into the world’s ways, that we faint not; and that a sense of separation, the antithesis of brotherhood, ends as we know it today. Let Love Prevail, Let All Men Love.spiritual control of our lives will bring to light for us the Love that underlies world events; a Love that the world oriented man will not see working out behind the scenes.
