And God said , Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth. And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat. And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so. And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day. Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made. These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens, And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the LORD God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground. But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground. And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed. And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil. And a river went out of Eden to water the garden; and from thence it was parted, and became into four heads. The name of the first is Pison: that is it which compasseth the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold;  And the gold of that land is good: there is bdellium and the onyx stone. And the name of the second river is Gihon: the same is it that compasseth the whole land of Ethiopia. And the name of the third river is Hiddekel: that is it which goeth toward the east of Assyria. And the fourth river is Euphrates. And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it. And the LORD God commanded the man, saying , Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die. And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him. And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof. And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him. And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh. And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed” (Genesis 1:26-2:25).

  • The other part of this is in the next chapter where God “formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul“. Here we have either a repetition and explanation of the creation of man in the image of God and both male and female or we have a secondary creation that brings the spiritual man into Life in the earth. Our understanding is the latter and this would become man’s existence in the Garden of Eden.

We ended the last post in a discussion of what leads up to our point above but not specifically about this point. We spoke about the Seventh Day of rest and discovered that the idea does not necessarily mean rest but rather is more likely a reference the ‘cessation‘ of the Creative Work of God, the manifestation of the Universe, and we noted how the Hebrew word is generally rendered as cease. We discussed also how the idea of day is misplaced as well, being used for those ancient men to whom this was written as a Hebrew word they could understand in a simple way, and, which for us is better rendered as an epoch or some other undefined term of time and this idea is inherent in the definitions of the Hebrew in both Strong’s and the lexicon. As we view this, the idea of the Seventh Day of Rest, the Sabbath of the Jew and a holy day for many Christian sects as well, is based upon the tradition of the Jews which is based upon the teachings of Moses which come much later and, while there is no direct relationship between the commanded Sabbath of Moses’ Ten Commandments, there is relationship formed in both Jewish and Christian doctrine. And, while we read in this scripture of the blessing and sanctifying of the ‘Seventh Day’, there is no clarity to what this really means as this is a heavenly dictum of sorts and is akin to saying that this day, this epoch, of the cessation of the Creative Process of God, is a special time but at the same time saying it in a way that the man in those days could somewhat understand the speciality of it ALL.

As we ofttimes say, there are many levels of meaning in most ALL of the words of scripture and this is likely the general nature of most ALL world scriptures and is perhaps as well a defining quality of scripture which comes to us with a mixture of ideas that are readily understandable but changeable as one grows, ideas that are literal and do not have the propensity to change one’s understanding and ideas that are obscure but at the same time are discoverable albeit with different meanings to different people. That this is done with purpose is testified to by the Master’s teaching in parable and proverb as He tells us that He does, and the prophetic and  revelatory sayings of the prophets and the apostles. We must add to this the reality that in the minds of men there is much confusion between these categories of ideas and many see many a parable as literal and many a literal saying goes unrealized as though it were a parable and many a prophetic and revelatory saying is interpreted by those who have not reached the spiritual status to truly understand or KNOW what it truly means. The effect of what we are saying here is strongly seen in the interpretations of the words of the Book of Genesis and from our perspective the whole of the matter for us today is in the reality that the readily understandable sayings are not allowed to grow into the proper meanings as man evolves and progresses mentally and that the obscure sayings are not discovered and both of these phenomenon are based in the very doctrines that interpreted them long ago. Here again we find the role of glamour and illusion in doctrine fixing the meanings of things and allowing little flexibility for the changing of meanings and effects and we should note that it is likely this limit on flexibility that is responsible for the creation of some of the thousands of denominations and sects that ALL purport to interpret the same scriptures.

All of this is to say that a day is an epoch and that a rest is but the cessation of the Creative Work as we move through the ideas of Genesis to discover some of the obscure sayings as we discussed in the last essay, particularly the ideas the Lord made “every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew“. There is a reality in these words that IS discoverable and it is here that we ended yesterday, with our premise of a Creation that is occurring on many levels and that in the invisibility of manifest substance that provides the essence of those things that do appear we may find our answer. We are not yet ready for this in our writing however as we do not understand the inner workings of the Mind of God and subtleties of His Created Universe but we can offer here some understanding albeit rather vague.

We noted yesterday the Master’s telling us that “If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove ; and nothing shall be impossible unto you” (Matthew 17:20) and we have always aligned this with the reality of KNOWING which is the totality of faith. We KNOW today that ALL IS ENERGY moving at differing rates of vibration and having different radiatory capacity and we KNOW that we cannot see this energy nor its radiation but that it IS there. We also KNOW that this world of energy IS in a way hidden within the things that we can see and feel and that in our seeing and feeling we are interacting with the dense manifest aspect of it. Note our word here of aspect and let us relate this to the Aspects of God and of man noting that the Aspects are ALL resolved into one Life. We should try to see that in the reality that it is the Spirit and the Soul of a man that give Life to the form, that this same dynamic is working out in the plant and animal kingdoms albeit sans the personality and the mind and the totalness of individuality that a man enjoys. Taking this one step further for man and for the other kingdoms in their own way, the Master tells us that “the Kingdom of heaven is within you” (Luke 17:21) which is but a testimony to the reality that the Life, the Spirit and the Soul, are within the gross dense form. This idea of within does not mean that there is a place inside that they may be found for they ARE NOT substance of this physical manifestation but are spiritual, divine matter much as the energy that is the driving force behind every other manifest thing in the universe. Can we see that the speck of reality that we can call the Spirit of a man assembles to himself the substance of the Kingdom of God for his Soul and then, by way of his incarnate Life, holds in place the myriad of smaller lives that make up the body of the man and that this goes on in a downward spiral to the basic atomic matter. Man is not any of these atoms nor molecules nor chemical substances nor organs nor what the organs make up; man is not this body nor is he the energy substance that enlivens the atoms and the molecules and so on. So then, as the Soul controls the body, holds it together as a unit, so also the Soul controls the energy that is beyond the body which, for our understanding, is called being within and this same holds true for the mental apparatus which can be seen as yet another body of sorts but of a more subtle nature.

Esoterically and occultly there is much written about the various bodies of man and there is much reality in these writings but the same effect as we find in Christianity as a religion afflicts these sciences as they are separated by the individual doctrines of many different schools of thought. What we are saying here is basic and enough to take us to where we need to go without getting into the minutia of the inner workings; that there are inner workings is sufficient for our needs and we should understand here that the reality of the energy that IS behind ALL manifestation is what controls that manifestation. From this perspective we must note the correspondences of Life and that the spiritual energy is of greater moment and of more ‘reality’ than is the physical and that the idea of the Trinity works in regard to ALL things that are of God which is to plainly say ALL THINGS. There is the Spirit or the essential energy for those things that exist only in physical manifestation. There is the manifestation of that Spirit or essential energy which for man this is in the Kingdom of God, in that rarity of divine substance, while for physical manifestation this can be viewed as etheric in nature. And, there is the expression of that manifestation or the activity of it….this is the simplicity of the Trinity. If one could imagine this in levels one could see that the divine is purer and closer to God that is the physical and from this perspective is the ability to control that which is below.

While it may seem like we have gone far afield here, we really have not and couched within the ideas that we offer above can be found a touch of the reality needed to understand the saying from Genesis that began this dissertation on our view of the basic nature of things. To close today we will look briefly at the advancements of recent years and the technologies that were not even imaginable to the early man, to the man in Christ’s day or even to the man of a hundred years ago; advancements that have changed the way that man lives and interacts with his environment. Our point in this is to say that nothing is stagnant, that ALL is evolving and this evolution must include the evolution of the spiritual ideas of man’s relationship to God and his relationship to his fellow man.

  • Advancements in man’s understanding of the Energy that IS and its release in fission and fusion.
  • Further advancements in atomic theory regarding particles which were recently thought of in the simplicity of the electron, the proton and the  neutron. There are now particles within particles, fermions, quarks, leptons, bosons, etc., and ALL are components of energy or rather explanations of energy.
  • Advancements in the use of the energy field in which we live in the Earth and by which ALL of manifest Life is electrified. This may seem an odd statement but if we could but see this field and what we put into it, we would wonder how it is that we can actually move through it as it moves through us. The countless transmitted signals that surround us at any time in the form of traditional radio and television, cellular technology, microwave transmissions, satellite radio and television, short wave and long wave radio plus our own little WiFi networks can likely be seen as a soup of data steams each carrying a different message simultaneously and without confusion.
  • To this we should add the myriad forms of electromagnetic energy that is restricted to wires and fiber optic networks that move energy and data to virtually every corner of the Earth.

This is but a small sampling of today’s understanding and uses of energy yet there is no real understanding at all. Our point here is with all this change we have not changed our way of looking at the spiritual part of Life but are still looking at it as it was promulgated many centuries ago to a man who could not even imagine the things of which we speak today. We take the spiritual Life of the man who sacrificed animals to His God as pronouncements of how one should live today which is good in a strictly moral sense only. We take the spiritual interpretations of the Church Fathers who lived before the dark ages and who spoke to men who could not understand anything but in the simplest of terms and we rely upon their understanding instead of our own. In short, we live spiritually in a world of illusion and of glamour and there is no way out but to interpret the reality of the teachings of the Master according to one’s own Christ Within and not according to a teaching that still maintains that the Earth is the center of God’s creation and that the Creation was accomplished in seven days.

We did not intend to go down this road today but….We will continue with our thoughts on the point above as well as the last two below in the next post.

  • Next we have the creation of the woman who was, according to the text, already created with the man during the creation in the image of God. Again this is either repetition and explanation or it yet another step in the bringing forth of the spiritual man into the Earth. There is another rather obscure saying in Genesis which may go well here: “And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose” (Genesis 6:1-2).
  • Last we have the trees; “the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil“.

Note on the Quote of the Day

This daily blog also has a Quote of the Day which may not be in any way related to the essay. Many of these will be from the Bible and some just prayers or meditations that may have an influence on you and are in line with the subject matter of this blog. As the quote will change daily and will not store with the post, it is repeated in this section with the book reference and comment:

We repeat here again a saying that is from the Bhagavad Gita and which goes well with our topic over the last several days. Today we see the God Within us as the Christ Within and this is good in the Christian world and this is True based upon our understanding of the Christ as the manifestation of God. We should see that it matters not what we call this Inner Man as it is the same in ALL, it is the Soul.

Thou carriest within thee a sublime Friend whom thou knowest not. For God dwells in the inner part of every man, but few know how to find Him. The man who sacrifices his desires and his works to the Beings from whom the principles of everything stem, and by whom the Universe was formed, through this sacrifice attains perfection. For one who finds his happiness and joy within himself, and also his wisdom within himself is one with God. And, mark well, the soul which has found God is freed from rebirth and death, from old age and pain, and drinks the water of Immortality.—Bhagavad-Gita

It is difficult to tell just what verses of the Bhagavad Gita the above is from; whether it is a paraphrase or a combination. It is from the book “The Great Initiates” by Édouard Schuré which was originally published in French in 1889 and perhaps it is in the translation of the verses that they become hard to recognize. However, the sheer beauty of the presentation caught my attention and so I share it with you. The Path to the Kingdom is the same no matter what religion one professes.
